4th Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance in Animals and the Environment

27-29 June 2011

On behalf of the organizing committee, we are delighted to announce the congress on Antimicrobial Resistance in Animals and the Environment (ARAE 2011) which will be held at the Vinci convention center, in Tours, France, June 27- 29 th, 2011.

A very exciting program has been put together by the organizing committee. The aim of the ARAE conference is to present a global vision of the impact of the use of antibiotics in livestock and their environment. During five sessions, all aspects related to pharmacology, epidemiology of resistant animal and zoonotic pathogens, mobile elements containing resistance genes, emerging antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, common aspects to virulence and antimicrobial resistance, and the role of the environment as a source of resistance genes transfer and dissemination will be discussed.

Tours is a busy university town and the traditional point of departure for exploring the Loire Valley, famous for its wonderful wines and rich history. Today, the city boasts beautiful Renaissance and neo-classical mansions, which are clustered around the famous Plumereau square, fine museums, and the Cathedral of St-Gatien. The most interesting sites in the surrounding area are the châteaux of Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Ussé, said to be the original Sleeping Beauty’s castle, as well as the splendid medieval city of Chinon. So, the meeting promises to be both intellectually stimulating and culturally interesting!

We look forward to meeting you all in Tours in June 2011.

Sincerely,

Dr. Axel Cloeckaert & Dr. Michel S. Zygmunt
